Auction Watch #53

People have been casting copies of M.U.S.C.L.E. figures for nearly ten years at this point. Some of the best work can be seen in Art 200. Existing M.U.S.C.L.E. figures have also been amazingly painted, and an example of that work is Luke Harris. However, there seem to be more and more artists attempting to take the original M.U.S.C.L.E. figures in new directions. And some of the most notable examples are: Adam (halfbadtoyz), best known on UofM for his Fruit Fighters; Alec (Muscle Things), best known on UofM for his custom M.U.S.C.L.E. t-shirt; Jason Frailey, best known for his ClawShine figure; and Mad Joes’ custom figures and collaboration attempt, which has been tweeted about.

The auction, Custom M.U.S.C.L.E Yama-Bito Keshi #3, features three of Adam’s (halfbadtoyz) custom creations.

The auction states:

Up for auction today are three custom made MUSCLE Keshi figures. These toys are one of a kind, hand crafted and hand painted. They will never be reproduced.

They represent the Yama-Bito, mythical mountain creatures from Japan’s folklore. They have been painted to a high level of detail, and would go great with your MUSCLE, Monster in My Pocket or Keshi collection.

This will be the last lot I do for awhile, so grab them up. The next series will be larger, and these first three sets are going to be very collectible.

These are collector’s toys, and are not for children.

Please allow up to ten business days for delivery. Thanks!

The auction features a great opening bid, fair shipping, and great pictures. The only potential negative for the auction is halfbad_toyz’s feedback. However, that is unlikely to scare off the majority of bidders.

In fact, it hasn’t scared off this bidder. Because I am bidding on these figures, I will not be offering a prediction of the final auction price. However, I do feel confident that these figures will sell for even more that his previous three figures that recently sold for $34.89.

Follow-Up: There was good news and bad news. The bad news was that my prediction was wrong. The figures sold for $31.51, which was $3.38 less than Adam’s previously mentioned auction. The good news is that these figures found a good home and an excited collector – me.
