Auction Watch #61

The first auction, m.u.s.c.l.e. men lot of 170. 125+ unique! all flesh., features approximately 170 Flesh figures with only about 40 figures being redundant. The listing is very simple, but effective.

The opening bid may seem high at $50, but that breaks down to a very reasonable $0.29 per figure. The auction picture gives collectors a decent look at the figures. And the auction description is straightforward:

Lot of 170 m.u.s.c.l.e. men! only flesh colored in this lot. By my count, there are 127 unique men in this lot.

I am not a collector, but they look to be in very good shape. Good luck bidding!

The auction description does highlight one of the negative aspects of this auction. “Very good shape” from the perspective of a non-collector could very different from that of a collector. If the figures truly are in “very good shape,” then the seller has done themselves a disservice by not having a larger, more detailed picture available. With an even better picture, the seller could expect the price to climb significantly if collectors could closely inspect the quality of the figures.

The only other potential negative aspects of the auction are quite minimal. The shipping seems a little too high and the seller, papegano, has minimal feedback.

These negative aspects are unlikely to detract from an overall nice auction. The final price of the first auction will be $68.00.

The second auction, m.u.s.c.l.e. men lot of 113, all colors, is also from papegano. All of the same positive and negative aspects of the first auction also apply to the second auction. However there are two minor differences. The first is that the per figure price of the $40 opening bid is a little bit higher at $0.35 per figure. The second difference is that the auction description is a bit more detailed:

Lot of 113 m.u.s.c.l.e. men! all colors here!

15 neon green
13 red
6 salmon
12 light blue
10 orange
25 dark blue
21 purple
11 magenta

I am not a collector, but they look to be in very good shape. Good luck bidding!

The final price of the second auction will be $75.50.

The third auction, LOT 80 COSMIX-MUSCLE MAN-TERMITOR-EXOGINI-MONSTER IN .., is as interesting as it is varied. It appears to feature Monsters in my Pocket, Army Ants, M.U.S.C.L.E., and maybe a few N.I.N.J.A. Mites. However none of the figures appear to be North American figures. They all appear to be Exogini, Cosmix and the other European based figures.

Sadly, the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. only has a superficial understanding of these toys. For more information the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. suggests Toypedia’s Exogini section.

As for the auction itself, there could be some concerns give the nearly lack of auction description and the seller’s minimal amount of feedback (giraumon2011). However, because the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. is unfamiliar with the specifics of these figures, collectors may be willing to overlook any potential concerns.

The final price of the third auction, based on zero understanding of the figures, will be $42.50.
