Experienced M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors have often heard about but rarely seen the prototype Hot Wheels M.U.S.C.L.E. HiWay Hauler. Even when it does appear, the majority of M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors are not looking to spend several hundred dollars to own it.
Some collectors have taken it upon themselves to create custom versions. One method for creation can be found here, but customizers often have their own preferences and techniques.
However the one thing all customizers need to start the project is a Hot Wheels HiWay Hauler from the appropriate timeline. The Hauler should be from about 1985 though 1988. Hot Wheels experts may be able to point out a more specific timeline, or subtle differences between Haulers, but this is a safe range for most M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors.
The price of HiWay Haulers seems to have a wide range depending on the condition, type of truck (He-Man, NASA, etc.), and the seller. For customizers the condition of the Hauler is not very important, however there are three things to consider:
- Wheel Condition – A beautiful new truck does not look as nice with overly worn-down wheels.
- Windshield/Window Damage – Again, the custom Hauler will look terrible with cracks or other damage to the windows.
- Rear Doors – Whether they are opened, closed, or unable to stay closed it does not matter. Painting them shut is a viable option, however you simply need both of them to be there.
