Auction Watch #98

The first auction, Mattel Yudetamago M.U.S.C.L.E. Wrestlers 10-pack sealed, is part of the just plain cool group. It features a Canadian English/French bilingual 10-Pack.

These Canadian 10-packs do not come up for auction very often on eBay. For many collectors the packaging is so unique they would never consider opening it. However, many Class A figures have been discovered in Canada. This auction could also appeal to collectors hoping to turn a profit with the figures inside. It could even be something collectors looking to complete their own figure collection get interested in.

Because it’s such a cool piece, hopefully the winner will keep it sealed and protected. And because it’s such a cool piece it is going to have a high final price. The final price of the first auction will be $156.50.

The second auction, M.U.S.C.L.E. Poster (all pink, very good condition, RARE!) Kinnikuman, also belongs to the just plain cool group. The Flesh version of the poster shows up with pretty decent regularity. However the condition of the poster is always significantly different. This poster appears to be in pretty decent condition.

And when decent posters appear so do collectors looking to upgrade their poster. It also brings out the collectors that had been waiting for a better than decent poster. Condition is certainly everything when it comes to the poster. However the prices of posters seem to follow very little logic.

The final price of the second auction will be $50.50.

The third auction, SPLATTER HOUSE Piggyman mini figure, fresh colored, M.U.S.C.L.E. MEN, NAMCO, is an interesting custom figure. It looks to be a Biggy Man custom figure from the video game Splatterhouse.

This figure falls into the cool, but overpriced category. Most custom M.U.S.C.L.E. sized figures carry a approximately $15 to $20 price tag. It seems to be about what the market can currently stand. This figure is priced at twice that amount.

There have been discussions about the aftermarket value of custom figures. Many collectors seem fiscally hopefully, but often resigned to simply having their desired figure – not an investment.

Small runs of custom figures happen for various reasons. However, if a customizer sees an aftermarket for their figures – why not release more figures? Aftermarket value does not help the original creator. The money should go to the original creator. Financial success should encourage the creation of more custom figures. The entire topic is probably worth much further discussion.

Whether or not this third auction will sell is very difficult to predict. Perhaps there is a rapid Splatterhouse fan-base shocked at the low opening bid for this figure? From only the perspective of M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors this auction will not sell.

The fourth auction, M.U.S.C.L.E.S. Complete Bubble Gum Set 24 Figures 1980’s, are 24 cool counterfeit figures – but the price is terrible at $1.25 per figure.

Counterfeit figure collectors are a tiny niche within the already niche community of M.U.S.C.L.E. collecting. The only widely desirable counterfeit figure is probably Ashura-Bull, aside from him most collectors would probably assign a value of less than $0.50 per counterfeit figure.

The fourth auction will not sell.

I am pretty sure that Splatterhouse figure is not a custom, but just another mass produced keshi line.

You are 100% correct. Zoomoth is the company that made him.

    Oops. Sorry.
