Auction Watch #117

The SGS and its impact has already been discussed.

The first auction, ’80s MUSCLE MEN Kinnikuman RARE ASHURA MAN FIGURE NOT LISTED, may be the first example (or a mere coincidence) of the positive impact a figure like SGS can have on M.U.S.C.L.E. collecting. Of course, it is terribly unfortunate that the SHA figure (a Beta Non-Poster figure) does not have his head.

However, this is unlikely to deter most M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors. The main reason is that a custom replacement head can easily be added to the figure (for example). Given that the figure (as of posting) is already at over $200 it is difficult to predict where the final price could end up. It seems inconceivable that the final price would climb much higher, given that the figure is missing its head, but it probably will.

The final price of the first auction will be $466.50.

Sadly there is another negative aspect of the SGS auction that wasn’t covered – the clowns. Calling these people scammers or con-artists, although some may be just that, is too rough of a general blanket statement. Some people just get blinded by dollar signs and their brains’ turn off. One seller, grandpappys-attic, is certainly a clown.

All of his figures are listed as “MUSCLE MEN FIGURE ULtra Rare !!!! Y/S N.T.,” clearly trying to capitalize on unsuspecting or uninformed collectors. But the worst part, aside from the ALL CAPS, may be his auction description:

BELIEVE THESE ARE SOFT RUBBERY !!!MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IF THESE ARE HARD OR RUBBERY> MY GUESS IS RUBBERY ALTHOUGH IM NOT SURE BECAUSE IM NOT A COLLECTOR AND REALLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THESE LITTLE GUYS>

This is a classic smarmy auction description. It’s inexcusably gross.

His auction pictures don’t help his case either, because most are easily identifiable as bootlegs, keshi, or ruined.

The most ridiculous figure is the last one pictured above. The AshuraShine figure is not something that any seller gets accidentally. Perhaps pure asshole is more appropriate in this seller’s case.

The title of the next auction, ENTIRE COLLECTION OF M.U.S.C.L.E MEN FIGURES ALL 236 SATAN CROSS CLAW MUSCLE MEN, includes the note “INCLUDED 10 UNIDENIFIED FIGURES NOT ON POSTER AND RING.”

With these clowns, the auction descriptions are always priceless and this one is no exception:

HELLO YOU ARE BIDDING ON THE ENTIRE 80’S MUSCLE MEN FIGURES FROM THE 80’S,IT TOOK FOREVER AS A CHILD TO COLLECT THEM ALL ESPECIALLY FLESH COLORED ONES,YOU GET ALL 236 ALL ARE MINT OR NEAR MINT,NONE ARE BROKEN OR CHEWED OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT,ALSO INCLUDED IS THE RING OF THE MUSCLES MEN,1 OF THE HOOKS THAT GRAB FIGURE BROKE OFF? OTHER THEN THAT IT LOOKS CLEAN AND NEW LOOKING AND BOX LOOKS GOOD,ALSO INCLUDED ARE 10 FIGURES FROM THE MUSCLE MEN SERIES WHICH NEVER CAME OUT ON THE POSTER,BUT ARE MUSCLE I BELEIVE. I MOSTLY BOUGHT MY TOYS IN 2 DIFFERENT PLACES AS A CHILD 1 BEING WOOLWORTHS,AND THE OTHER BEING ZAIRE,NOT SURE WHY THEY ARE NOT ON THE POSTER? RARE COMPLETE COLLECTION ALL ARE HERE…. NO RETURNS,OR EXCHANGES,ALL SALES ARE FINAL,SOLD AS-IS

He forgot to mention the one other place he bought figures from – grandpappys-attic. If you can’t figure out what’s happening, then maybe you do deserve to spend $500 on that lot of junk.

Auction Watch #117 will attempt to end on a high note thanks to this final auction – vtg 80s unused MUSCLE poster w/ original shipping tube claw satan sunshine flesh.

It is a Flesh poster with its original mailer tube. It seems like there have been a ton of these showing up lately, but that’s unlikely to get any complaints.

Given that the poster appears to be in very good condition this auction’s final price could climb very higher very quickly.

The final price of the last auction will be $136.50.
