Epilogue – Week of March 10th

It’s a coin flip this week. You choose the Asshole of the Week. Here’s the auction. Is it the buyer for spending his money on sun-faded figures? Or is it the seller for calling them “variants?”

Post your answer in the Comments below. The best answer gets a Tommy Tanker and set of OMFG Series 2.

Win Me!
(Or Buy Me!)

Win Me!
(Or Buy Me!)

I made two small updates: (1) pictures of the prizes you can win; and (2) a poll – just in case you want to vote, but don’t care about getting the figures. (Which seems crazy to me. This has to be one of the easiest “contests” ever.) Oh, and the contest ends…Monday? Yeah, that sounds good. This contest is loose and fast. Like his Mom. You know who I’m talking about.

This is what happens when you list M.U.S.C.L.E. auctions on drugs.
“1st Edition” is good, but its no New Edition.
So your getting a huge lot with possible rare ones . It’s “you’re” – you are. I don’t know that I trust this seller to come through on that promise.
$3.50 + $2.80 shipping = almost Asshole of the Week
79 Flesh figures.
I’ll start the bidding at $0.99, but I’ve GOT to sell at $5.
187 Flesh figures.
201 Color figures.
$0.99 for a Salmon #153 – worth a look if you don’t have him.
But too much #153 makes my penis soft.
Yep, I’m going to puke. I feel sick.
10 years ago I believe this Class B #60 could have pulled $30. He’s just not that popular today.
I’m going to start a Kickstarter to raise money and destroy all of these.
If you have 18 pieces, use that picture – not the one keshi picture.
I hope the painter had fun. At that price, I just see a ruined Flesh figure.
I’ve seen that Future Strength figure before, but not in an auction – it’s a shame about the price.
“possible rares,” but not probable.
Wow. Any interest in 3D printing? Check this out.

I feel like I’ve seen a lot of these figures, but I’ve yet to clearly SEE the figures. To me, this is a classic example of needing to reserve judgement until you have the figure(s) in your hand. I read and hear so many people passing judgement on figures before they have them. I don’t believe you can do that. Sure you get a first impression, but first impressions aren’t everything – especially with mini-figures.

But the downside to waiting is that you don’t get to be “first” to post something. You lose that initial excitement which tends to be based on very little – but equals clicks, likes, and shares. Do you know when I actually get excited about a figure? When it’s in my hand.

If Dr. M.U.S.C.L.E. ever gets finished, that’s how I’ll promote him. Not pictures to websites, but figures to websites. Whether people love him or hate him at least it will be based on the figure and not a picture.

This was my wife’s vote for Video of the Week:

This was my choice, I don’t really know why? I guess I just had Muppets and Canada on my mind:

Maybe it’s the western Canada color M.U.S.C.L.E. figure connection?

The biggest challenge this week was deciding on the Picture of the Week. It seemed like a big week – maybe even an important week! There was a new pope, nearly 100% confirmation of the Higgs Boson particle, JP Morgan hid mistakes, Kwame was found guilty, and…

Um…there was also…

You know…um…

There was…

What were we talking about?

It’s the buyer for not realizing that the figures are sun faded. Pictures and a description of the figures were provided that indicated the figures might be sun faded.

I’ve been on this page for an hour and keep forgetting what I’m supposed to be commenting on. Am I having memory issues?

Waaaait a second…. that seller is either an LRG member or…. well I know I know the name for some reason……

    Imperfecz :

Waaaait a second…. that seller is either an LRG member or…. well I know I know the name for some reason……

The name stood out to me too.

The best I can offer is that I mentioned his feedback to a seller before and he was selling five dirty lots of figures.

The Buyer AND the Seller…eh… They’re ALL Arseholes!!!!

  6. #6 by Ridureyu on March 15, 2013 - 3:34 pm

It’s the seller, because for the buyer, at least they look kinda cool.

I say the seller is trying to use a cheap marketing gimmick by selling them as “variants”. They are clearly faded. Technically that does make them variations. The buyer obviously either doesn’t care or just wants a huge collection of everything m.u.s.c.l.e. related in any shape, form or color. I am just glad that we who respect the lines have enough sense to stay away from those kind of listings when we see them.

  10. #10 by Douglas Quinn on March 17, 2013 - 12:20 pm

    Both are the assholes.

  11. #11 by chopa on March 18, 2013 - 10:07 am

I’m actually gonna go with the buyer. The seller at least does mention that they might be sunfaded in the description.

  12. #12 by Brian Bonanno on March 18, 2013 - 11:31 am

the seller, for trying to put a hype on this auction, when all he has is some played with sun faded m.u.s.c.l.e men. As for the buyer he got a ok deal paying a little more than a dollar per figure. Esp since we don’t know what his/ her plans are with these m.u.s.c.l.e men, maybe painting them, or cutting them up to make custom figures. Regardless its never a bad idea to give a un wanted m.u.s.c.l.e man a good home
    please adopt

  13. #13 by LukeOram on March 18, 2013 - 12:03 pm

It’s the seller. Either a prize chump or deliberately taking the mick.

  14. #14 by jmckinnon316 on March 18, 2013 - 12:25 pm

Is it just me, or does the picture of the week start going through faster the longer you watch it…….?

    ooh, just me then? 🙂

Jesus, though Chad, what a picture. Totally distracting whilst sitting and trying to create VM’s from a template here at work…..

I have sold crap figures myself before – they’e not easy to market. But at least I mention that they’re suitable only for Custom / Kit-Bash ….. or Target Practice!

I don’t blame anyone here – but perhaps the seller could have been more specific about what he had. Just so that no newbs got duped!

  15. #15 by mrjayberry on March 18, 2013 - 12:59 pm

seller because buying sunfaded figures takes the hassle out of sunfading them yourself

  16. #16 by Josh on March 18, 2013 - 1:19 pm

I’m the asshole, because I don’t care either way.

Also, youtube, because I can’t find this video on there anymore: http://www.spike.com/video-clips/2yb9iq/space-people

  17. #17 by BladeRunner on March 18, 2013 - 3:02 pm

Well call ME the Asshole ’cause I’m gonna overpay for those shits and use them for target practice with my .357 Sig!

  18. #18 by Adam on March 18, 2013 - 4:04 pm

I think in this case it’s a bit of both.

The seller is an asshole for labelling them as “Variants.” I feel like this crap happens too often in this hobby.

The buyer is an asshole because he is supporting the seller in his actions and will likely cause the seller to make more “variants” and sell them to other people. This could eventually cause newer people to the hobby to think they’re getting sweet deals on cool figures when really they’re just getting jacked.

  19. #19 by TheOrgg on March 18, 2013 - 4:39 pm

The mark of “Variants” is the problem to me; if the buyer did not know they were sun damaged, I’d see a legit claim for false advertising.

  20. #20 by Foxman on March 18, 2013 - 7:42 pm

“Great condition”… “It could be possible they are just sunfaded but the color of them is unlike any other I have seen before.”

The seller undoubtedly knows they are sun faded junk. Buttholes can be cleaver though…

The buyer is most likely just a n00b who doesn’t know any better and is trying to take a gamble. We were all n00bs once though, right?

Then again, maybe the buyer is just looking for certain sculpts for custom painted figs. He figured that he would pay a dollar or two extra so he wouldn’t have to destroy perfectly good figures.

Or… maybe the buyer is really a philanthropist who is working two jobs to buy up damaged figures so that the can give them to children in orphanages and burn units. Maybe he secretly goes by the name “M.U.S.C.L.E.claus” and because of you, he’s just going to BURN his big pile of damaged M.U.S.C.L.E. figs and give those poor kids the finger.

Thanks a lot UofM. You called M.U.S.C.L.E.claus an asshole and ran him off for forever…

    Good going…

  21. #21 by ez8o5 on March 18, 2013 - 9:44 pm

the sellers the asshole, for hyping those weak muscles up like that

  22. #22 by Man on March 19, 2013 - 1:41 am

The buyer for continuing to support a shady seller.

Although the seller tried to explain the less than mint condition he does a little two-face talking. Still it is so obvious that the buyer wins the auction and the idiot of the day award.

  23. #23 by Chad Perry on March 19, 2013 - 9:45 am

Ok, all the entries are in – which is another way to say the contest is closed.

I’ll announce the winner in this week’s Epilogue.
