Monday Morning M.U.S.C.L.E. Musings #28

M.U.S.C.L.E. figure #171 (Mixer Titan)
by Professor Terry

M.U.S.C.L.E. #171 is a figure that I think is just okay. Not one that anybody lists as their favorite or even as one of their many favorites. Why is that?

Because there is no Class A? It seems to me that some collectors judge sculpts as a “favorite” because there is a Class A version. That bugs me no end…

I always have had the feeling that more could have been done with this figure. Come on, it’s a blender with limbs! Practically every figure has the blender empty. This is why I pose my Romando full of figures for him to mush up.

Speaking of the Romando – I chased one for quite a while as it looked really impressive in pictures. When I finally found one, it cost me a pretty penny. When I received it, I was let down by the fact the clear blender part is the thinnest, nastiest plastic on earth! I was expecting some thick acrylic type substance which would be the next best thing to glass. Then the limbs are loose as they’re attached to this thin nasty plastic.

The saving grace for this character comes in the 1991 series and Deka Kinkeshi series. At least the facial expression conveys some anger and the 1991 figure has prominent blender blades. They are some of the toughest figures to find in each line. I wonder why? Is the blender so unpopular that Bandai made less of them? The only reason I shelled out good money is because I’m completing those two sets.

I could have bought a real blender for less. Food for thought?

I’m very new to the scene of MUSCLE, but found this post and laughed. I was thinking of taking a broken blender, removing the blades and power cord, then putting my overflow figures into it for show.

My collection doesn’t even fill the two wine glasses now and it’s mostly OMFG at the moment. (MUSCLES on way from eBay). I guess operation blender is a long range plan, but apparently I wasn’t the only person insane enough to think of it…

Love your site btw. It’s the reason I got into MUSCLE collecting.
