Auction Watch #227

Last week’s AW sucked.

I liked it when I put it together, but the pictures didn’t work and two of the three auctions mysteriously ended before AW posted. I assume someone made an offer on the first auction. The second auction has relisted. And the third one has gone away. One good thing happened within that mess.

This week the first auction, Huge Lot 361 M.U.S.C.L.E. muscle men by Mattel 80s vintage plus ring and belt, reveals I’m lazy but through when I look at auctions. When I saw this auction I thought $60 for 10 Purple figures?! Sadly, that’s not as crazy as in the past.

But then I noticed the description stated 361 figures. That’s a pretty good opening bid for some many figures. Plus a ring and belt are thrown in (although they look to be pure garbage). Then I read the auction description:

May have been stored in a home with smoking. I’ve hodgepodged this collection together from multiple sources.

In my experience, that’s meant to prepare the buyer that all of the figures are going to smell like smoke. Have you guys had that same experience?

I don’t like cleaning my M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. If I could set a cap price for smoky figures, then it would be $0.30 per figure. That means $108 would be my top bid for this lot. I don’t expect most other M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors to have that same opinion. I know some people don’t mind giving their figures a quick bath.

The second auction, M.U.S.C.L.E. MEN DISPLAY CASE with 24 SEALED TRASH CANS RARE!!!, is incredibly interesting.

At first glance, I thought a full 10-pack Display Case with a $2,500 BIN wasn’t too crazy; each 10-pack could be priced at $100 and $100 for the box. I wonder who wants 24 10-packs? Obviously it makes the display box look nice, but does the box need it?

If I was after the box, then I would say, “no.” The box also has a big rip on the front. What would I pay for a ripped version of the box?

I feel like this auction needs the perfect buyer. Someone dying to own the box, plus willing to sell 24 10-packs.

Am I wrong?

Finally, I had to point out this hilarious auction.

The third auction, M.U.S.C.L.E MUSCLE MEN Kinnikuman Terri Bull Buffalo Man Corbra Satan Lot of 3, is three Flesh figures with a $54.88 BIN. It was too hilariously crazy. It had to be acknowledged.

That lot is worth $1.50. An incredibly generous offer would be $3 for the lot.

I’m not mad or upset by this seller. It’s painfully hilarious. How did they get to this price?

Seriously, I can’t come up with good guess. I am failing to offer even a fairly decent guess.

As I sat staring at this listing I wondered why I found it funny instead of infuriating. It can be a very fine line between absurd and AOTW. But why?

Do you guys have any ideas?

Regarding the 3rd auction, I too LMAO at it, from the day I first saw it. I thought to myself…Their must be something seriously wrong mentally with the seller here. Then I thought, it’s just a waiting game…The seller may wait a long while indeed before selling those three little guys. But then again, all it takes is someone just as crazy as the seller to come along and give that much for them. Only time will tell.
