Art 300 – Universe of Violence – Odd Narook

Universe of Violence – Odd Narook
By Ironhaus Productions, Ironhaus Productions Oz, and Eric Nilla

Objective:
This figure was released on October 5th, 2017. It is one of the three figures that made up the third wave of Universe of Violence figures.

The Odd Narook figure was sculpted by Jimmy of Ironhaus Productions.

Like the second wave of UofV figures, a baseball-like card was packaged along with the figure. A set of Deathmatch game rules can be found on the Ironhaus Productions Oz website.

The figure cost $10, plus shipping. The figure was cast in multiple color combinations. Buyers could not select their color; instead a random color was assigned. This specific figure was orange. The figure was cast in a M.U.S.C.L.E.-like rubber.

As of writing, this figure is no longer for sale.

Subjective:
I had a very weird experience with this figure. With all of the other UofV baseball cards I liked the drawing and coloring of the figure. I didn’t like this one at all, and I blame the figure. I like the figure so much that I feel protective of the sculpt. I want the drawing to be as equally kick-ass and it isn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a perfectly fine drawing. It’s not any better or worse than the others. I know it’s a weird opening admission, but it was my initial reaction to the figure.

I was even upset by the stats. I know that’s crazy, but, again, I blame the figure. I felt the Speed, Attack, and Defense should be much higher. I had to look at other figures’ stats and he was lower than most. I tried to take solace in the Hit Points. He was higher than most, but he was lower than Hell Chicken.

Ok, that makes sense.

Obviously I liked this figure when I saw it. That’s why I bought it. However, I liked him 100% more when I had him in my hand.

The worst part of my love for this figure is my absolute inability to articulate it. Don’t get me wrong. I can point out some parts I think are cool. But that feels like pointing out ingredients in a perfect soup.

The glove is great, the belt is great, and the subtly of the missing arm blew me away. But other figures have gloves, belts, and missing limbs. How did this one put it all together so well?

Perfect soup.

I hope my analogy makes sense, because it’s the best I can do to explain my feelings about this figure.

Odd Narook feels like less of a M.U.S.C.L.E. figure to me (which is fine), but I absolutely love his scale. It might be an important part of the soup’s recipe. The figure looks balanced and “correct” missing 1/4 of its limbs. That accomplishment shouldn’t be overlooked.

A size comparison between the #153 figure and Odd Narook.

The entire third wave is very strong, and all of the reviews will be a part of Art 300. It might be too late to add this figure to your collection, but don’t sleep on these guys. I’m sure there will be a fourth wave. I hope there will be a fourth wave.

The entire 3rd Wave of Universe of Violence figures.

Interesting. I created the character, sculpted the figure, and approved the drawing for the release (because I felt it fit). I guess you’ll just have to wait for the comic to see that the stats are pretty on the nose, too.

Goes to show, you can’t win all of the people all of the time.
