Kinkeshi Premium Translucent Figures
By Professor Terry

MMMM #118 compares the new Kinkeshi Premium Translucent Vol 1 & Vol 2 to the original Translucent figures in the 1991 Kinkeshi line

Among the flourish of new releases in the past year is a Translucent version of both Kinkeshi Premium Vol 1 and Vol 2. Another 30 figures to add to the collection, I’m seriously running out of space. Today though I’ve hand picked the best 9 in my opinion, a mixture of new sculpts and ones we know & love.

I will go on record as saying that I’m not a massive fan of translucent sculpts in general as the figures do seem to lose the effectiveness in their details that solid color figures have. The 9 figures chosen are: Cubeman, The Mountain, Tyre Man, Akuma Shogun, Big The Budo, Springman, Ashuraman, Nemisis and the guy I assume can curl himself up into a ball (I need a name for him)

I do like how the translucent figures differ in color from the thicker parts like torso to the thinner parts like the sword in Big The Bodo’s hand. The 1991 figures have that same feature.

What I find hard to get past is the choice of color for the new figures. I’m not sure why the orange like color was chosen when purple in the 1991 figures looks so much better. I understand that they want to differentiate but so many more colors could have been considered. Maybe they will release more colors of these figures. There is a “best of” from the first 4 Volumes in a charcoal color being released in March.

Lastly I will comment on the Nemisis figure for a minute. It seems he is the only one of the new sculpts in the line that is getting treatment in other Kinnikuman based lines, he must be the most popular figure in Japan I assume or a favorite of the company producing the figures. I’ll look at him more next week.

The one without a name is クラッシュマン (I can’t find if he would be Crashman or Crushman then in English, but I assume the 2nd because of the following). He uses those appendages similarly to how Doc Octopus in Spiderman uses his, grabbing people and such. They often have spikes coming out of them.

    You can see him here
