Art 200 highlighted Marty Hansen’s custom M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. Normally buyers need to order directly from Marty, but there is a unique opportunity to own around 100 figures because of a current eBay auction.
The auction, Large lot of Custom M.U.S.C.L.E and Kinnimuman Figures!, features several pictures of all the figures – which give the buyer a decent sense of what is included. Unfortunately this excerpt from the auction’s description does not provide added clarity or specificity:
All told this is a listing for more than 2000 dollars of custom figures if a price could be placed on them accurately as a lot which is simply not possible to estimate the value
I am listing the all of the figures in 1 lot to make a single collector happy and I hope I do. I will always combine shipping on multiple items and hope you love the figures. If you know the artist that made these you know how difficult it is to both collect and part with these items. Every figure is a one of a kind from the black light to the glow in the dark every figure is unique and cannot be duplicated. From the uniquely flesh and violent to the difficult to make these figures represent an impossible amount of time to calculate to create and an imagination that few people possess…
The first sentence states that the lot is $2000 worth of custom figures – if a price could be accurately placed on the figures, which, according to the next few words, is not possible. Comically, a price has twice been placed on the lot: (1) in the sentence stating it wasn’t possible; and (2) with the starting auction price.
Hilarity aside, the second paragraph points out some of unique aspects of Marty Hansen’s work but does not clearly assign it to any of the figures. Perhaps all of the figures are black light reactive or perhaps only one of the figures are black light reactive? Unfortunately, it is not clear through either the description or pictures.
While a buyer lacks some information, there is no disagreement with the quality of the figures. The auction still acts as a wonderful opportunity to collect a large lot of custom figures. Hopefully the buyer enjoys all the sculpts and color choices.
The starting bid of the auction may initially seem high to some bidders, but at roughly $1 per figure it is a decent price. It is also helpful to have a seller with good feedback both on eBay and at LittleRubberGuys.com (you must sign-in to view feedback).
Follow-Up: Surprisingly this auction ended without a single bid. This is most likely due to the starting bid having a seemingly high starting bid and the figure choices and colors being a highly personalized choice. Buyers may have liked certain figures in the lot, but not all the figures.
