Auction Watch #263

Over two weeks have passed since AW #262 was posted, but there’s still plenty to talk about. As expected, both of the board games sold. I was surprised that both listings only had one bidder. Whoever got the game for $40 got an absolute bargain. Especially when compared to someone else paying $80 for basically the same thing.

The original belt listing had a $95 opening bid. It did not sell. The seller re-listed with a $75 opening bid and to my utter disbelief it sold. My hat is off to the seller. They found the only person in the world willing to spend $75 on that total piece of shit.

Finally, there were the three cans. The lot sold for $30. My opinion is that the winning bidder overpaid by 100%.

Coming back to eBay after an extended break is very difficult for me. I’ve lost the thick skin and perseverance that lets me wade through the shit, single-figures, assholes, and pure garbage. It was painful looking at the state of M.U.S.C.L.E. on eBay.

Thankfully there were two listings that were easy bright-spots.

The first auction, MUSCLE CLASS A FIGURE #145 LIGHT BLUE BLACK TOMAHAWK M.U.S.C.L.E., is a Class A #145 figure. Most importantly the listing starts at $0.99. We have seen the #145 figure show up many times. I wonder if this figure serves as an example of Class A price drop-off?

Many Master Set collectors may already own this figure. While the figure is certainly attractive, can it still demand a premium price? We’ll see – but I don’t expect it.

The second auction, MUSCLE CLASS A FIGURE #2 PURPLE BUFFALOMAN M.U.S.C.L.E., also starts at $0.99. And the Purple #2 figure has shown up many times too. I think Terri-Bull is popular enough that when a Class A version shows up it still demands a premium. I can see this ended at $50 or more.

The biggest problem with these two listings – $18 shipping?!? That’s crazy! The shipping is high enough that it could negatively influence the final price of both figures.

As the owner of the 2 Class A figures with $18 shipping I feel I need to explain why the shipping is $18.
First they are being shipped from Australia
Second and most important I am not covered by eBay if the buyer claims non receipt unless I ship tracked. It’s really stupid and I’ve been burned trying to help someone by offering cheaper shipping by taking the tracking off. Then the bastard claimed non receipt even though I had photographic proof it was sent.
So now everything is shipped tracked and the cost is ridiculous
    Sorry people

That sucks to hear you were scammed.

My shipping is usually a bit high too. If you want to protect yourself, then there’s not much that can be done about it.

I’ve been enjoying your website for sometime. I’ve found incredibly helpful in my start into collecting these figures. It’s saved me a lot of time and money!
I was curious if you had any opinions on the segment at about 8 minutes into the following video:

Does any of that sound right? 3 dollars a piece being average? I’ve mostly bought off of eBay, and I haven’t paid more that 75-80¢ a pop so far, though perhaps I’ve been lucky. Thanks again for a great website!

    The simple answer is no.

Thanks for the kind words too. Sharing this video has helped shape the Epilogue for this week.
