Auction Watch #93

M.U.S.C.L.E. collecting is perfectly analogous to a merry-go-round. The prices go up and down and the good auctions eventually come around again. This week it seems that it’s the perfect sweet spot of low prices and good stuff. In fact, it was incredibly difficult to narrow down the auctions this week. Aside from the auction below, make sure you look for yourself too.

The first auction, MUSCLE Men Hard Knockin Rockin Ring Wrestling Areana – In Box!, is probably more interesting than exciting. It features a wrestling ring in very good condition with its original box. Sadly the ring figures are not included in the auction.

Because the ring figures are so easy to find, this is actually a perfect opportunity for a collector to pick-up the wrestling ring. It is also interesting because a wrestling ring (in very good condition) without figures and with its box (also in decent condition) rarely shows up on eBay. It will be interesting to see how bidders value this auction.

The final price of the first auction will be $16.

The second auction, M.U.S.C.L.E. MUSCLE Lot of Hundreds plus Mega Match Game! RARE!!! Kinnikuman, looks to be a nice lot of figures. It’s too bad that the current bid ($76) and poor picture may cause some bidders to overlook the auction.

The seller answered a question about how many figures were actually included in the auction. The answer is approximately 361 figures. That is a very large lot – plus it includes the Mega Match board game (the level of completeness is unknown).

At the current price of $76 it puts the per-figure-price at $0.21 – a great deal. The price will surely go up. But how much?

The final price of the second auction will be $198.50.

The third auction, M.U.S.C.L.E. men sealed 3 packsM.U.S.C.L.E. men sealed 4 packs, could be defined as the perfect auction – depending, of course, on your criteria.

The seller starts with the perfect trinity of $0.01 starting bid, free shipping, and good auction pictures. Then the 4-packs have some fun figures inside of each one of them (#107, #143, and #180). The 4-packs also appear in decent condition. The final “cherry on top” for this auction are the price stickers on the 4-packs. Some collectors want perfectly pristine examples, but price tags (especially marked down price tags) give a sense of history, origin, and the sad decline of M.U.S.C.L.E..

The final price of the third auction will be $32.00

The forth auction, 1980s M.U.S.C.L.E. MEN ~~~ CLAW~~~ 4 PACK, features another 4-pack. This 4-pack auction is not perfect. This auction combines fear and excitement.

Based exclusively on the auction’s picture most collectors would be excited to see a 4-pack with a #107 and #153 figure inside. However, the seller’s feedback is terrible – especially given previous problems with another M.U.S.C.L.E. auction and the damage of another delicate carded item because of poor packaging.

Even with these risks, the appeal of the #153 will be too great. Plus most buyers will rely on PayPal refund policy to protect them.

The final price of the forth auction will be $42.50.

The next group of auctions also focuses on the #153 figure. jmckinnon316 is individually selling his collection of #153 figures (he’s also selling a Class A Purple #1 and a custom Purple #153). Selling these #153 figures individually will certainly allow some collectors to specifically purchase the figure(s) they need to complete their collections. That specificity will likely drive all of the prices up on these figures. A final prediction will be omitted on these auctions, but it will be interesting to watch:
