Auction Watch #36

Satan Cross might be the M.U.S.C.L.E. item that best eludes the confines of predictability. However, M.U.S.C.L.E. posters may soon dethrone Satan Cross as the most unpredictable M.U.S.C.L.E. item.

An auction for a Flesh M.U.S.C.L.E. poster, cleverly titled Flesh M.U.S.C.L.E. Poster, is currently for sale on eBay. This auction is exciting for three reasons: (1) seller; (2) condition; and (3) auction description. The seller, gunsmoke.50, has a spotless eBay record as a seller. The condition of the poster also appears to be quite immaculate. While additional pictures would have been nice, the seller seems to give a very basic but complete auction description:

This auction is a original mailaway M.U.S.C.L.E. poster from Mattle Inc. dated 1985. This poster is all flesh figures. Very light wears at the coners. No major tears, folds or creases. No pinholes or tape residue. Poster will be mail in a tube.

This poster will make a great addition to any MUSCLE collector. Thanks for looking and please see my other auctions.

The University of M.U.S.C.L.E. has featured M.U.S.C.L.E. posters in Auction Watch numbers 5, 9, 25, 30, and 34. And in each situation, unpredictability seems to be the only constant. The prices have ranged from $36 to $158, with final prices often exceeding expectations by an average of almost $40. Equally as strange there have been two instances where posters did not sell at all, even at, comparable to the other auctions, ‘good’ prices.

As of posting this auction, the bid price is $25.49. This poster is also in wonderful condition, which could drive the price higher than most collectors expect.

The final price of this auction will be $86.50.

Follow-Up: The final price of the auction was $51.00, which was astonishingly $35.50 less than predicted. This final price once again highlights the volatility of the M.U.S.C.L.E. poster prices, especially because this poster was easily one of the nicest examples that have appeared over the last several months.
