2010 Auction Watch Review & Looking Ahead

It’s safe to say that the University of M.U.S.C.L.E.’s Auction Watch feature ended the fourth quarter of 2010 with a whimper – but was pretty accurate along the way. The goal for 2011 is to rectify that situation and return to the, minimally, weekly posting of auctions. Additionally, the hope is that other M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors will submit write-ups of auctions.

Auction Watch #50

It’s been an appallingly long time since an Auction Watch has been posted. And the appearance of a “Purple Claw” seems like the right auction to spotlight.

Auction Watch #49 – Belt 1 and Belt 2?

Currently on eBay there is an auction for the M.U.S.C.L.E. Battlin’ Belt. Normally a loose belt with a few Flesh figures does not demand any special recognition. However, in the world of M.U.S.C.L.E. minutia, this auction is quite noteworthy.

Editorial – Auction Watch #46, But Pay No Attention

From the onset of the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. I made a very conscious decision to write the posts in third person. The third person style allowed me to separate myself, and tonally match textbooks and journal articles – keeping with the academic theme. A good friend, and little rubber guy collector, once suggested that I add an editorial section to the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. until now it never seemed like a useful feature; almost too self indulgent. However Auction Watch #46 showed me that there would be times where it was appropriate.

Auction Watch #45

Two very interesting auctions are currently available to M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors. Both have interesting starting prices and Buy-It-Now prices, and both have sellers that have been featured in previous Auction Watches. But are both auctions grounded in reality?

Auction Watch #44

Auction Watch has seen a wide range of prices for what collectors often call “rare” figures – which often become synonymous with valuable, without any tangible evidence. Auction Watch #43 provides another observation of a Class B figure.

Auction Watch #43

Auction Watch #43 offers collectors a look at two trends that appear to be increasing. The first is desirable Class A figures being identified and heavily bid on. The second is ridiculous auctions using ridiculous Buy-It-Now prices. And both trends seem deeply intertwined.

Auction Watch #42

One of the realities of collecting M.U.S.C.L.E. items is that occasionally there is a lull in the market. It appears that collectors are currently stuck in one of those lulls.
