Auction Watch #57

This edition of Auction Watch is focused on the eBay Giving Works auctions that are supporting Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief. Vary percentages of proceeds from auctions will benefit the American Red Cross, GlobalGiving, or several other charities.

Because these auctions are allowed to donate varying percentages of the final auction price, the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. recommends direct donations to charities. This ensures they always receive 100% of your donation. For example:

The Red Cross (or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.)
Save The Children
The Salvation Army (or text the words “Japan” or “Quake” to 80888 to make a $10 donation.)
Doctors Without Borders

However, some people may enjoy getting something tangible from their donation. The following auctions will likely appeal to M.U.S.C.L.E. collectors (the percentage of the final auction price is also listed):

Based on the limited number of toy auctions with less than 75% of the proceeds going to a charity, it appears that many people are more interested in profiting from the tragedy instead of truly providing some degree of help.
