M.U.S.C.L.E. Ephemera Mystery

Lucas Rage, the King of Counterfeit, amazingly remembered something when he saw the recent M.U.S.C.L.E. Newspaper Advertisement post.

Something about it seemed familiar to him. He knew he had seen the wrestling ring image before. In fact, he had seen it on this website. Infinitely frustratingly I cannot find the original post.

Lucas thought it was in an Auction Watch and I thought it might have been in an Epilogue.

Thankfully he saved the image from the original eBay auction.

Lucas’ guess is that these graphics were used by advertisers for placement in print ads.

He might be correct.

I also wonder if Clicks cleverly repurposed promotional material from Mattel. My guess is based on the bottom of the page. It says:

SEE CATALOG FOR COMPLETE DESCRIPTIVE COPY.

The catalogs were not for consumers. A retail store would have had access, like Clicks. Perhaps this sheet comes from a reminder mailer that Mattel would send to retailers?

Do you have any insight to help us solve this mystery?

Living in the area, “Clicks” is still around…kind of….rebranded as “Acme Fresh Market.” It’s basically the same store it’s just a grocery store and no longer a department store kind of place. It is a family owned company and there are more than likely people still around that could answer those questions.
