Monday Morning M.U.S.C.L.E. Musings #68

Mr. VTR (M.U.S.C.L.E. Figure #168)
by Professor Terry

I’m certain I’ve done this before; having the MMMM number match the M.U.S.C.L.E. figure number somehow. I swear it’s a coincidence!

This week M.U.S.C.L.E. figure #168 is going to be discussed – Mr. VTR.

I don’t particularly like this figure. I’m probably alone in that thought. It’s like someone had a bunch of spare parts (TV, VCR, microphone, etc.) and decided to throw them together to create a robot/wrestler?

So why am I spending time on it? Funny enough it’s to highlight: (1) the figures of him I DON’T have; (2) why I’ll probably never buy them; and (3) why I have Mr. VTR on display at all.

The Romando figures look okay for a VTR – but they are expensive, even the VTR figures I own weren’t cheap. I can’t bring myself to spend the money – the Australian Dollar isn’t good either right now against the US dollar or Yen. I don’t mind the blue one in Tyler’s (Nama Niku) photo. I LOVE the 100T figure next to it though.

So why do I have any on display?

With the M.U.S.C.L.E. it’s easy – I have all my Class A figures on display, but I don’t really know why. I’m the only person who looks at them knowing they are Class A. Everyone else who sees them sees colored M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. In fact I’m now going to put the Dark Blue one in the Gumball Machine with all the others!

The Great Kinkeshi. Again I have the whole set on display – I only need one more of the 30 to complete it. He stays but at the back.

The Deka. A tough to find figure that sits with the other late part Deka on the shelves. I guess he needs to stay too.

The SD Kinkeshi isn’t all bad and probably my favorite one. He stays.

Okay, so all but the M.U.S.C.L.E. stay on display. In summary the figure is ugly but must have stood out when I was looking at the shelves last week thinking of which figure to write about.

Finally, the REAL reason I spent time on this figure is because I really hope that someone who loves the Mr VTR figure sees this post, decides that they’d like to own some of the figures pictured, and that I’ve identified what may be out there to be found!

I really like the Romando figure of Mr. VTR (I have the silver version). But the M.U.S.C.L.E. toy has always frustrated me because it is one of (if not the only) delicate figure in the line. The “wire” connecting his arm to his head breaks very easily. In my days of buying a lot of M.U.S.C.L.E. lots on eBay, I think I acquired more broken Mr. VTR figures than intact examples.
