It was a simple example that highlighted the need for organizations to better understand both the specifics of each job and the specific knowledge each employee held. Often the most important, and difficult, part was capturing the specific knowledge each employee possessed.
I mention the Beer Truck Scenario because I hope it will encourage collectors to document the knowledge that they hold, but do not share. Documenting the minutia of M.U.S.C.L.E. information was a main driving factor for creating the University of M.U.S.C.L.E. However, even I didn’t share all the information I had. I held on to one piece hoping that it would further my own research. I wish I could say that I had a piece of Earth shattering news to share – I don’t believe that I do. I will share my last withheld piece of M.U.S.C.L.E. information in Archeology 300.
Hopefully other collectors will also share information they may have held on to for whatever reason. It would be a shame to lose any M.U.S.C.L.E. information because someone was “hit by a beer truck.”
