Auction Watch #300

Auction Watch #299 featured five listings. I thought the first lot would sell for $3.05, but it sold for $0.99. That’s a nice pick-up for somebody.

Since it was a part of the poll last week, we’ll come back to the 24 Color Figures.

The three Class B figures obviously didn’t sell. That’s no surprise. The surprise is that the seller relisted with a $15.50 opening bid. Is it desperate? Is it sad? Is it equal parts of both?

Sydot’s 24 Class B figures weren’t exactly gobbled-up at $1.46 per-figure. I am a little surprised, but I think it drives home the point that Class B figures don’t matter (from a high-price perspective).

Last week we had a poll.

[poll id=”101″]

Only a single person was surprised that the 24 figures sold for more than the Purple #41 figure. I have a hunch it was the seller.

When I started looking through eBay I wanted to find anything to write about besides Class A figures. There wasn’t anything.

Oh sure, there were terrible listings. There are plenty of those. But what is there left to say about those?

The only interesting M.U.S.C.L.E. lot on eBay is this one: 1986 MATTEL THE M.U.S.C.L.E. MEGA-MATCH GAME BOXED w TONS OF BEASTLY BRAWLERS!.

Obviously I only found it because I was using the search term, “BEASTLY BRAWLERS.” (Was that written sarcastically enough? Writing sarcasm usually fails.)

The lot contains two Class A Purple figures. I thought there was a third. I saw the Light Blue figure with a M.A.S.K. helmet. I thought it was #31, but the abs don’t look correct.

I might need a new #107 figure because mine could be fake, but I won’t be going crazy on this lot. Maybe a $50 bid?

I’m not in a race to finish. What’s the point?

“You could say you have the first Master Set!”

To who? You guys? It might have mattered to me 20 years ago. Maybe. But that’s just the stupidity of youth.

Today, I know the ending will be bittersweet. My quixotic task will be over. The journey has been the most fun part. There have been highs and lows and endless characters. I’m even going to be a little sad when I finish taking pictures for the Guide. There won’t be any reason to play with my toys.

I bought the lot of colored figures from Sydot. There was some interesting colors there, and I’m mostly out to bulk out my color ranks. The price was decent, and we negotiated to add a few more into the mix, so I’m pretty satisfied.

Wait, would you really be the first collector with a Master Set? Nobody else has one?

There has never been evidence preseneted or a trusted collector claiming to have a Master Set.

Alex Forbes has a master set, there’s picture evidence on his tripod site.

Oh right Brian, I mean “Tim.” This inarguable evidence…

    Alex Forbes' Purported Master Set

Argument is over, especially since Alex has never lied – ever.
