Monday Morning M.U.S.C.L.E. Musings #40

M.U.S.C.L.E. figure #108 (Rishishiman or Wolfman)
by Professor Terry

After a long hiatus I’m back with one of my favorite figures – #108.

Those who are familiar with the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures know that Rikishiman has two very different sculpts: (1) the #108 version; and (2) the #156 version. I’m going to talk about the #108 figure as it’s the one I am a much bigger fan of. The main reason is the amount of detail in the #108 figure in comparison to the simpler #156 figure. I love the dressing he has on around his waist and his pose is more intimidating. That is why I have two different custom painted figures of #108.

The one on the left was done for me by LRG member Ersico. The one on the right was done by an artist unknown to me because I bought it in an eBay lot of customs. The only identification is the lettering “pos” on the figures feet. If you are aware of the artist, I’d like to know.

Those that follow MMMM will also know that I’m quite partial to figures found only in 4- and 10-packs and #108 fits that description. He was a figure I owned as a child and I’m pretty sure he was the only real traditional Asian looking figure I had and so he became the samurai in nearly every imagined M.U.S.C.L.E war I had!

Being one of my childhood favorites is why I am trying to find all known versions of the figure and sought out the glitter Kinkeshi figure. I will cover these in a future MMMM but for now I will state that although the glitter figures are a cool concept, the detail of the figure loses its impact in the Kinkeshi glitter form. So there is the short story of why I love figure #108 over the #156 incarnation of Rikishiman.

See you all next week!
